I loved reading this book. From the first to last page I was engaged in the adventures of believable characters. And there were many. I am 78 years young and sometimes get lost if there are too many story lines to follow. But I was there. The author took me on a tour of China's past that left me wanting more. The story had it all, mystery, history, good guys, bad guys, and romance.
I have read Amanda Roberts' other books and look forward to Volume 2 of this series. Joyce Phillips
I enjoyed reading this newest by Roberts. I've read other books by her in the past and even enjoyed her cookbooks! She's a great author and I laugh a lot while reading her. This latest has a lot of action and mystical elements in it. I was very interested in reading all the way through. I recommend for the setting and the characters!

I must admit that I typically don't read books in this genre, but I read that it compares to a little "Indiana Jones". So, I just had to give it a read. The story centered around the search for the Emperor's Seal. Both, Jiayi ( can time travel by touching historical artists) and Zhihao ( and archaeologist looking for the seal to gain funding for a museum) are looking for the seal for different reasons, however, adventurous shenanigans ensues! No more SPOILERS!!! Just READ the book, its so worth it!!!!
This is an absorbing quest adventure set in early twentieth-century China. The tensions between the Han Chinese and the Qing dynasty and the resentment of both toward rapacious foreigners form a backdrop to the formation of a tentative friendship between two very different characters a psychic girl from the Empress's court and a skeptical Western-educated scholar. The story is interestingly told from both perspectives. They are set a seemingly impossible task by the Empress and have a number of Indiana Jones-type experiences before the surprising ending. This particular episode is complete, but there is clearly more to come, and I am looking forward to it. Meanwhile, I think I will look more into the history of China! Amanda Roberts has delivered a very interesting book with a very unusual storyline. The plot is set in early 20th century China in a period of China's history not commonly known to the western world where this enthralling adventure begins with a quest - to find the Emperor's Seal. The Author has an engaging style of writing which draws the reader into the story making the book very hard to put down.
There are good descriptions to scenes and good interaction between the main characters - Jiayi and Zhihao who are entrusted to find the seal for the Empress. With non-stop action, psychic powers, adventure, time travel and a hint of romance (not necessarily in that order) it is a fascinating read. Highly recommended!
