This Dog for Hire Rachel Alexander Dash Mysteries Carol Lea Benjamin 9780440225201 Books

Greenwich Village PI Rachel Alexander and her pit bull Dash find a killer and a missing show dog in a novel that is hard to put down. After I read it, I went out and purchased the next three books in this lighthearted but fast-paced mystery series.

The plot was complex; the ending a complete surprise and yet, in retrospect, it made sense. A long-time mystery reader, I can generally figure out the ending, but not with this one.

The art world of Soho and the the dog show scene made for an interesting setting. I learned a lot, but the setting and history did not get in the way of the fast-paced plot. All-in-all one of the best books I have read this year.

This Dog for Hire Rachel Alexander Dash Mysteries Carol Lea Benjamin 9780440225201 Books Reviews

This book is a little rough for my taste, but it is a good story. With all the issues we face in today's world, it makes us think. We read so much horrible stuff in the news every day that this is not new. If, I had a dog it would be Das and Rachel is a great detective.
As the mom of a Pitbull and a licensed private investigator, I truly loved this book!! Rachel and Dash are a great duo and I can't wait to read the second book in the series!! I just stumbled upon this author while strolling thru looking for something different to enjoy and this filled the bill!! I'll be reading the rest in order and am looking forward to the journey!!
It's a jolly good mystery/adventure book, if you like dogs and the world of dog shows. The author's writing is clear, concise, and no-nonsense. She manages to stay consistent with person, tense, theme, etc. It's not brilliant writing, but it's satisfying. I bought two more of her books after I read this one.
Carol used a lot of unnecessary words and sometimes gross phrases that were not helpful to convey the story. The murder and the resolution were good but she could have told the story in half the pages.
I gave this a high rating because it was such a surprising book. I have read a few The Cat Who ..... books and was just drawn to this by the title. The story has insight in to the working of the dog show world as well as a good mystery, a little slow to start with but it picked up quickly and had a great ending.
Anyone looking for a light read on a long trip would find this holds your attention really well....Enjoy
Enjoyed the story with its plot twists that kept me guessing but there wasn't enough Dash. I hope she gets him neutered and adds more info about the myths and deceptions about pit bulls and the discrimination they face daily. As a proud owner of a rescued pit I find it hard to believe he would be so easily accepted in restaurants and other places inspire of his certification and training. I hope she will keep it real in future books but I'm on the third and she still hasn't. Still I'm glad that this wonderful, misunderstood breed is getting good press and applaud her for it.
I very much enjoyed getting to know Rachel and Dash and Magritte. This is very enjoyable, but a bit in the dark side, as is the location of the story.

The location's culture, both the Villages and the Westminster Dog Shows, and the era play almost as big a role in the story as the mystery and the heroes. It's the 90s and the AIDS epidemic is still at the top of everyone's thought process, and the homeless population is as large and ubiquitous as ever.

There are times when you think it's all done and figured out - you just need proof... And then another twist comes along.

I recommend this book, and I'm going to go find the next one as well.
